Solutions:

In this life we're presented with challenges that can either be overcome and solved or pushed aside to fester for another day. Collective knowledge and collaboration with allies can light the way towards resolving the issues you're presented with so long as you blend with the support around you. Read on to transform your potential and watch as you overcome any problem that gets in your way.
A common occurrence in the service industry is being presented with a problem that the patron can't solve and being offered sums of cash to resolve the issue. It's a fairly basic transaction that happens millions of times per day. But what if you didn't need to pay for the solution? Yes, I am going to share with you today a potential gold mine of knowledge that you probably already use and know exists, yes, it's Youtube. We hear from customers that have searched Youtube in the hope that they would find the solutions to fix their bicycle problems. Often times the "solution" has caused more problems and the customer simply gave up and brought the bike in to be corrected by professionals. I would argue that with a simple tool kit and a level of understanding of torque and basic hydraulics just about anyone can fix minor issues with their bike. In fact, if you're a bicycle owner, I would implore you to go onto Youtube and search for "how to true a bicycle wheel" and check out how it's done. It may seem mysterious and beyond comprehension but it's really not. In essence you're moving a piece of material in a plane to another plane, ever so slightly, and that's it.
Flat tires? Search "how do I pump up my bicycle tires" and follow the steps. The alchemy of believing you can do it, finding the solution, and then doing it reaps rewards for you as a cyclist and for you're mental confidence and well-being. One caveat to all of this is if you do not have the right tools for a job seek help or buy/borrow the tools to do it right. We see a lot of damaged components that were inadvertently destroyed by using the wrong tool. These situations are uncomfortable for individuals that are at ease with bending the truth or denying culpability. Any mechanic will get to the truth like a sharp lawyer so when you're asked what happened just offer the truth. If you tried to fix it yourself and failed admit defeat and carry on. Lying to a mechanic will, without a doubt, cause your problem to become worse. Mechanics are human and emotional creatures. Some will become an empathetic, caring flat tire expert when given the complete story. Others may scoff at minor repairs but this is just their aura. That's what they do. They could be an accountant and would pop off about their ability to create spreadsheets and balances better than anyone. Be honest and don't let the hubris of some clown prevent you from finding the solution you need.
As mechanics and technicians we get training from the big brands and it gives us the knowledge and tools to solve just about everything we're handed. However, with the influx of poorly engineered bike shaped objects sold online, we are getting pushed ourselves to figure out solutions that we weren't trained on. You may ask where we find these elusive solutions? Youtube! Yes, we get stuck and go searching for the repair solutions from others that have realized that their knowledge needs to be shared. So if you hear a mechanic joking about "Youtube University" now you know why. It's a great resource when used correctly so go ahead and see if you can learn something new just like the pros do!
Honesty and trying to fix your own problem shows a mechanic that you care about your bike and you want to ride it. We can see right through lies and deception due to so many people not being truthful. Maybe that's just the human condition...
Ignore your doubts and open the bike shop door. We want you to come in and build a relationship that is beyond the simple transaction. Let's forge a bond that helps both of us.

Peace,
Paul
